Cedar Shake Roof Cleaning & Moss Treatment in Littleton, Colorado
Roof Cleaning and Moss Treatment
Not every roof should be cleaned the same way—and not every roof is a job for our drone.
For this featured project, LH Powerwash visited a beautiful home in Littleton, Colorado, where a cedar shake roof was losing the battle against moss and organic growth. Cedar is a beautiful roofing material, but its natural surface can create an ideal environment for organic buildup, especially in areas that stay shaded or hold moisture.
This project called for a more hands-on approach.
Cedar Shake Requires the Right Cleaning Method
One of the most important parts of professional roof cleaning is understanding the material you're working with.
While our drone technology is a great solution for many high and hard-to-reach exterior cleaning projects, it isn't automatically the best tool for every roof. Cedar shake shingles require special consideration because they're made from natural wood and can be damaged by overly aggressive cleaning techniques.
For this Littleton roof cleaning project, our team chose the cleaning method based on what the cedar needed—not simply what was fastest or easiest.
We thoroughly cleaned the roof to address the existing moss and organic growth while taking care around the cedar shake shingles themselves.
Removing the Growth Is Only Part of the Job
Visible moss is an obvious sign that a roof needs attention, but cleaning away what's already there is only one part of the process.
Once this cedar shake roof was thoroughly cleaned, we treated it to help discourage future organic growth. This extra step helps address the conditions that allow moss and similar buildup to return, giving the homeowner a more complete roof-cleaning solution than simply removing what's visible.
The result was a cleaner cedar roof with a preventative treatment designed to help keep future organic growth at bay.
Why Moss and Organic Growth Develop on Colorado Roofs
Colorado may have a relatively dry climate, but that doesn't mean roofs are immune to organic growth.
Shaded sections of a roof, areas beneath mature trees, snow accumulation and spots that retain moisture can create conditions where moss and other organic material can take hold. Cedar shake can be particularly susceptible because of its natural, textured surface.
Regular roof maintenance can help homeowners catch and address this buildup before it becomes more widespread.
Professional Cedar Roof Cleaning in Littleton, Colorado
At LH Powerwash, the equipment doesn't dictate the job—the property does.
Whether that means using our drone to reach a difficult roofline or taking a different approach for a delicate material like cedar shake, our goal is to choose a cleaning method appropriate for the surface in front of us.
LH Powerwash provides professional roof cleaning in Littleton and throughout Colorado's Front Range, including cleaning solutions for cedar shake roofs, moss, organic growth and other exterior buildup.
Because sometimes the smartest use of technology is knowing when another tool is better for the job.
